I need help with understanding my migraine headaches

Can you help me find answers and help me understand my migraines?
I am 13 and have had them since I was very young. My mom told me I used to scream my head off. My Mom took me to get a MRI and the doctor said there was noting wrong with you. We have also gone to our local clinic and no one can help me. My Grandfather is trying to help me find answers and this is why we are sending this message. I get migraines in a average of 4-5 times a month and I throw up and need to be in a quiet dark place. I have taken ibuprophine, asprine and nothing seems to really work.

Hi, I started having migraines when I was about 11. I had them for years until I reached menopause a few years ago. It is definitely related to female hormones and puberty. Nowadays there are some GREAT treatments. In addition to painkillers there are meds that can relieve the symptoms in 45 minutes to an hour, and you don't have to get a shot. You use it at home. Some are nasal sprays. Ask your doctor about these meds, one is called "Imitrex". There are some meds that are good at preventing migraines to begin with. Ask doctor about these, too. Good luck. You don't have to suffer like I did when I was your age. Let me know if you have further questions. Maybe I can help you decide how to talk to the doctor.

Have your mom check into a Pediatric Neurologist also- there are many who deal with migraines, including prevention. I know it is frustrating, I also had them when I was your age- but don't give up, there are many good treatments out there for them.

Hey, so I'm 16 and my migraines started 2 years ago. I've gotten every blood test done along with 2 MRI's and a CT scan. I just got a super bad one that lasted for 14 days. I've been throwing up, lost my vision in my left eye and I also get vertigo. I've been to a bunch of different doctors and neurologist and have tried lots of meds. I'm currently on Imitrex and it is helping. I would recommend finding a good neurologist who will help teenagers (that has been a super hard thing to find where I live) and will actually listen, keep a migraine journal including the food you eat daily and if there is weather changes, how long the migraine last, what your symptoms are during the migraine, etc. The food journal can help you tell if you have food triggers like MSG. Something I've done that has helped a lot is going to see a naturopathy who has put me on natural supplements (like Iron and 5HTP which mixes w your protein to help brain neurons). Try to see if you can find one. I live in a good size city and I drove 2 hours for the naturopathy. I hope this helps and if you have any questions let me know! Good luck, I know they are awful but make sure you dont freak out (which can b hard to do :))
