I have been on 8 antidepressants over the years, starting with Pamelor

I have been on 8 antidepressants, starting in 1981.
At present I am on Zoloft.
Recently tried over the counter options. Nothing works.
I have tried talk and group therapy.
Anyone have luck with the newer antidepressants for medication resistant depression?

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I also have tried multiple anti-depression meds and, luckily, have been on one that seems to work for the last few years. They are ones that have been around for a while.

Unfortunately, with anti-depression drugs, it is a trial-and-error process. I have ones that seem to work at first and then stop being effective, or other times it takes a while to find the right dosage.

Has your provider mentioned pharmacogenomic testing? It analyzes your DNA to show how your body processes and responds to specific antidepressant medications. I have not had it done, but it might be worth investigating.

Are there any new medications that you are specifically wondering about?

I've been taking Nortrypaline and Duloxetine for depression for several years now with mixed results, only because some days are always better than others, especially here in the PNW. After 5 or 6 months straight of no sunshine with nothing but clouds and rain my depression definitely worsens.

I've been having good luck with the Auvelity. I've struggled with depression for my whole life. I'm 61 years old, and I recently got on Auvelity, and that's helping me.
