I have been an RN for 40 years and have a known latex allergy which developed many years ago. For years I thought it was the glove powder until my face broke out after a dental appointment. I do not have respiratory symptoms. Several years ago I developed a rash on my right hand on the outside of 5th finger and edge of palm. It has been treated with steroid creams with little success. I have seen a dermatologist who gave me literature on the nickel diet but said it was atopic dermatitis and gave me samples of creams. It was not until this last week that I found the cause and my rash is already healing. Pencil erasers are made of LATEX. It was not until I found an eraser labeled “latex free” that I realized what was causing this horrible appearing rash. I have been doing Sudoku puzzles since my retirement and I brush the eraser crumbs off the page with the edge of my hand. I hope I can save others. I wish manufacturers were required to state if their product contained latex. @shirlwpb
