I have a very close friend who suffers from clinical depression and anxiety. She has suffered from agoraphobia in the past but seems to have conquered that. Her depression is becoming much worse and she has been under the care of a psychiatrist for over 40 years. She is addicted to Xanax and has taken many, many different anti-depressants. Nothing seems to be working and she needs help. I wondered if she could receive treatment at Mayo's Jax and what it would entail. Would she be an in-patient or out-patient? How long would it take for an evaluation as she would be coming from out of town? Would it be better for her to go to the Rochester location? Can you tell me who to call for information? Thank you so much.

Hi @896038. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Here is some information that might be helpful for you. Here is a list of frequently asked questions about appointments at Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.org/appointments/faq. I called Mayo's in Jax this morning and was told they no longer treat/evaluate patients there. Is this true? I live near there and she would stay with me. Mayo's Rochester would be much more difficult for her.

Hi @896038. I would try calling: 904-953-0853. This is the appointment request line for Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. You can also request an appointment online at this link: http://www.mayoclinic.org/appointments.

I have already called them and was told they no longer have mental health staff and that we would have to go to Rochester. Is this true?

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. I would call Mayo Clinic in Minnesota: 507-538-3270.

I did call there and they weren't sure of answer. This is frustrating and confusing. Your web site says there is treatment in Jax but I cannot seem to get a definitive answer from anyone. Think I will look elsewhere for help.

I'm sorry you're having a frustrating experience. From the information I can find, I believe Mayo Clinic in Minnesota would be the place to request an appointment. I'll try and find out if there is treatment in Jacksonville and let you know as soon as I can.

Hi @896038. The Patient Liaison office in Jacksonville should be able to answer all your questions and help you out. Their number is: 904-953-4938.

Thank you for the info but thought you should know that I just called and this is a non-working number. I have given up on Mayo's I think.

If you call the operator at: 904-953-2000, they will connect you to the Patient Liaison office once you ask. Sorry about the confusion.

Only Rochester has mental health care. I was admitted in December 2007 to the Mood Disorder unit after years of depression and a local psychiatrist who had me on very high dosages of medications. Although I live in Florida the only Mayo Clinic for psych care is Minnesota. It was so worth the trip. I highly recommend your friend going there.
