I had a second total knee replacement in March of 2010 and am still suffering with pain and swelling. I need a cane and life, for me, is worse than before the operations. The first artificial knee became infected due to a hospital acquired bacterial infection. I spent 6 months getting my life back. I have done some research and learned through Consumers Union that there are approximately 100,000 people a year who die in this country of hospital-acquired bacterial infections. People don't understand that there is a very high risk of infection with orthopedic surgeries, especially of the knee. The orthopedic doctors have a different version: Only 1% chance of infection.....total lie. I would be interested in hearing others' stories.
