I get.feeling not well, stuffy nose, itchy in back pf my throat, kinda sore/feels like something stuck just in back and i start coughing really bad, to point where i start to gag? It feels like i want to vomit. When all this occurs i get worried/upset and i cant sit, start pacing everywhere and it feels like a full blown anxiety/panic attack and they suck. I dont know whats going on with me i just want to be normal.

@tmvickery I started a discussion about a similar problem. It felt like I would choke to death at night I had scratchy throat felt like I was going to gag.,.The advice I was given.take an expectrant before going to bed drink some water with lemon juice in it eat some crackers ,all this helped I was able to get to sleep feeling much better also raise the head of your bed some Think this may help you?

The funny thing is i really dont have that problem going to bed, this happens during the day. Most of the time when i lay down to go to bed, i put on youtube or hulu to watch something and im out like light. My 15 yr old says i snore really loud sometimes.

@tmvickery Have you been to the doctor. Sounds like you could be having some kined of respiratory illness, but I'm not a doctor. You could have a sinus infection. If it doesn't get better go see your doc. I'm sorry you are having a hard time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

@tmvickery Not sure if you are on any medications. If you live in a suburban or rural setting, it may be a spring-related allergy. There are lots of trees and plants blooming, as well as grass growing. I take a store brand version of Claritin most mornings, which seems to really help my sinuses and seasonal allergies. Might this be worth a try? It's a once-a-day tiny pill, and does not interfere with my prescribed meds.

@tmvickery, here is the discussion to which @lioness was referring
– Mucus in throat at night https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mucus-in-throat-at-night/

It's sounds like you are familiar with panic attacks. Do you feel that these symptoms are caused by panic or that you feel a panic attack starting when you notice the symptoms?

Wasn't one with allergy as I live in dry climate of New Mexico, but that has changed. I now get sneezing, post nasal drip and this choking to point of gagging so much to point of vomiting. Here's a couple of things I did. First, went to see allergist but then went to ear, nose, throat specialist who determined that my throat was developing scar tissue from acid reflux. A procedure to done to open throat via a balloon. It was helpful in my swallowing and adjusted diet to avoid acid reflux. Hopefully some of this information is helpful. Good luck.

Marjou, I have Barrett's Esophagus. Also, I have a severely deviated septum. My nose swells to the point my doctor has to prescribe Prednisone so alleviate the swelling so I can hopefully breathe. When I go to bed, I have post nasal drip, sleep apnea together. I go to sleep for a minute, choke and wake up. I had a sleep test done and did not breathe 125 times during the night. Anyway, because of my nose problem, I cannot wear the mask at night (the CPAP). Some nights I stay up the whole night as I just know what is going to happen. Since I need back surgery (rod, plate, screws, fusion) and take pain meds, I cannot take anything for my nerves. I feel like I am in a Catch 22. ANY SUGGESTIONS, ANYONE?
