I'm bleeding when I urinate, does anyone else have this?

Posted by tropicallady1276 @tropicallady1276, May 13, 2016

I am a 76 year old woman. In February I was bleeding when I urinated. I went to specialist who did a cystoscope on me. She determined that the blood was coming from my left kidney which she checked and found nothing. She sad it was a hematuria. She also said there was no cancer. The bleeding stopped. I am going for my follow up visit on Monday. Today and yesterday I noticed tiny floating pieces of blood which worries me. Does anyone out there have this happen to them?

Hi @tropicallady1276, I found some information for hematuria from Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/blood-in-urine/basics/definition/con-20032338). This may offer some additional resources until your appointment.

I'm also tagging @cindywho01 who may be able to offer some additional advice and support. Do you experience any other symptoms while urinating?

Keep us posted following your appointment.

I went for my follow up visit since my cystoscope. No blood urine. However, she saw small amount of blood coming from vagina. She wasn't concerned about it. Doctor said not necessary to go to gynecologist-- just to watch and if it gets heavier than to make appointment with gynecologist. I wasn't quite comfortable with "watch to see if it gets heavier" so i made appointment with specialist Since I have Lichen Sclerosus for June 2. I will keep you posted.
Specialist did a biopsy. The test showed a polyp in my uterus-- negative. I went to my gynecologist who wants me to have a D & C to get out what's left of polyp. My fear is that although biopsy showed negative-- what's left of polyp could be cancerous.

I have chronic UTI's for several years and take antibiotics when necessary. I had a bad fall 7 mos. ago and a big bruise on the left side of my lower abdomen. I also noticed that after voiding I sometimes have blood-tinged mucus in my urine. My doc didn't seem concerned about that. A month or so later I began to notice a small pink blood stain coming from my vagina and this occurs once a month for a couple of days. I have gone through menopause. I am dealing with so many other illnesses that I haven't gone to the gyn mostly because of fear.

I know how you feel. I felt the same way. When I was spotting blood from my vagina I went to gynecologist who determined after a biopsy that it was a polyp. I had it removed and it turned out to be just that. I was not cancer. Sometimes we worry for nothing. Although the doctor said not to worry and that if it happened again to then go to gynecologist but I didn't want it on my mind so I went as soon as he could take me and I'm glad I did.

Hi @shoregal45,

Welcome to Connect; I see you've connected with @tropicallady1276, who I would like to sincerely thank for sharing information and especially for the insight.

I found this discussion on Connect that might interest you, "female frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs),"
http://mayocl.in/2oXAKjp...and I'd like to ask @dawn_giacabazi, one of Connect's Mentors, if she has any thoughts?

@shoregal45, has your physician ruled out any medications, or polyps/fibroids, that could be causing the spotting?
Since you mentioned that you are dealing with other illnesses, may I ask if you would share your concerns about those conditions?

I think I may have polyps which seem to fit into my symptoms. I will be going to the doctor. Thank you for your interest.

@shoregal45, Good for you! With the frequency of your occurrences and other health issues, I think you are a wise woman to consult with your doctor about this.
Wishing you the best.
