I have had a host of injections PT , the MILD procedure and last year I had cervical spine surgery! So next month I will be having Mas/TLIF surgery!!! This weighs on me physically and mentally and financially for sure ! Some days I have to stay home from working my body stays sore my legs and all !!! And I am a caregiver myself of about 11 years and counting!! I been stopped lifting so I don’t deal with that!!! I have a narrowing spine which I found that out 2025 !

Hello! I had a L3/L4 fusion back in 2020. It was a bit more invasive surgery, with them going through my side as opposed to the actual back. That surgery went well, felt good afterward and was on light duty with no lifting for a few months. I forget how long I had to stay at home before I was allowed to return to work. I also have spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease among other issues. Your surgery sounds less invasive so your recovery 'should' be quicker, but your doctor/surgeon should have gone over this with you. I know other people that have had a similar back surgery to mine, but with mixed results. So I would suggest to research your surgeon first, just to see what others have said. Good luck to you!

@insanepain thank you for your response. Yes, I’ve been doing my own research as well with different things but yes, of course they went over everything with me. I have the same surgeon from last year. He’s excellent so my life will be completely in his hands next month and God of course yes I was told that the recovery time should be a little shorter versus wide opening down the middle !! however yes, everybody body is different and we all heal differently, but I am for sure. Praying for the best because even when the pain radiates to my legs, it’s awful. I carry a folding cane most times Im just so overwhelmed but I know that I will get through this. Thanks again.

Had lamenectomy at HSS in NYC in 2022 at L4/5 due to severe spinal stenosis. By the time I had the surgery I couldn't stand long enough to brush my teeth. I was in excruciating pain and psychologically not in a good place. Surgery went smoothly, and I knew as soon as I walked, I had relief. I felt reborn. Four years in, new problems have cropped up in other places along spine. As you have experienced, this chronic condition is a challenge. The surgeon, the hospital, your overall condition, and your attitude are key to your success. Best to you.

I am 11 months out from a fusion of L-4-5 . The second attempt. New procedure a 2 day surgery. It was worth it for pain relief. I was advised subsequent to the surgery that I also had significant neuropathic issues. I have made a lot of progress by losing a lot of weight (50 plus pounds) using zep bound (which is also an anti inflammatory) Mentrix a supplement for nerve health (prescription needed), creatine, diet and exercise. Resistance training and swimming 1000 yards about 3 days a week. 5 days a week of exercise. Balance and muscle tone and bulk has come back, toe drop mitigated sleep apnea gone. Still a bit slow in stride and neuropathy is better but not gone. I am 76 and wish I would have been a better boy 20 years ago--but I am in much better health now and the effort was worth it.
