How to talk to somebody with a morphine addiction?

My neighbor has a morphine addiction.

In most cases PPOs/HMOs/all 'networks' treat patients like guinea pigs and keep switching and swapping treatments until they find the right one.

Is Hydro morph one (Dilaudid)drug addictive?

@vijay26, to answer your question, yes, Dilaudid is highly addictive.

All opioids should be considered high risk for physical dependence and/or addiction.

I was just in the hospital for 6 weeks. Because I did not have a fever, they would not give me Tylenol. Only Oxycodone for pain.😡😡😡. Makes no sense.

@tia8marie
Did you have pain, but pain?
Like in my case, my vitals are all normal, meaning no fever or high blood pressure or low Oxygen level,etc., but I have cancer pain.So, I take stronger meds for constant pain.
Hope this helps.

That's why they gave you Oxycodone!

How long did you take Oxycodone?
Are you still on it?

Hi @gseaborn, inquiring about resources and looking for feedback about this really tough topic is extra neighborly of you! You and your neighbor must have a very special relationship.

You have gotten some great feedback from members of the community, @jenatsky provided a great resource, the SAMHSA treatment locator.

As @vijay26 mentioned, there are several different medications that can be prescribed to help aid in Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Sublocade is an injectable form of Buprenorphine. Using a medication assisted treatment, like Buprenorphine, to help with cravings and physical withdrawals combined with counseling and psychosocial support to help people with long term recovery.

@gseaborn, have you talked with your neighbor about treatment?

@gseaborn This is true. Suboxone or sublocade can help. Sublocade is expensive but worth it if it saves one's life. I was on suboxone for years. It is not something that is easy to come off of and needs a taper. That being said, it does stop the cravings and the naloxone prevents opioids from having any effect if used while taking it. I will say, that it is so important to get a doctor that knows addiction, even better, if the doctor is in recovery. I also suggest offering to go to an open meeting of narcotics anonymous with your neighbor. Neither of you have to say a word. I have been clean and sober for several years now and it is possible. People die from this disease. I know this first hand as many of you probably do. It is also vital for me to remain in the present as much as I can. As human beings, we tend to future trip. I think it is a part of being human, but I am able to recognize when I start feeling fear or anxiety, I am usually thinking about some scenario that hasn't happened. YouTube has some great meditation videos, breathing exercises that are calming. Some are long, some are only 5-10 minutes. Hang in there. Also, Kelsey, thank you for what you do here.
