HORRIBLE chest pain! Please help

Posted by @misty0829 in About Kids & Teens, May 6, 2012

I am a 16 year old female and have been having severe stabbing chest pain since February of 2011. I have for to my primary care physician multiple times and have had a chest X-ray, scope, and an echocardiogram which all came back saying I was fine. I need to know what to do next. Btw I was born with a hole in my heart but that has been closed for a couple of years now. I NEED help! Please does anyone have any advice, know what's wrong, or what I should do next!?

I have had a similar thing going on. Had ekgs xrays etc. done. Ive also had mine for 7 months and all through my sports seasons. My coach thinks the main cause of it is a condition known as costochondritis. It could be a multitude of things. First you need to identify where in your chest it hurts and what triggers the pain like for example like if it hurts in the sternum(center) and it hurts when you exercise.

I was told that could be costochondritis but that has now been ruled out. Also it is the center of my chest and radiates over to the left.

Anxiety along with other physical factors can be a cause. Most doctors actually don't diagnose child/teen chest pain. Chest pain in teens it more common than thought about and the majority of people never get diagnosed. Some influencers you could be tested for is acid reflux, allergies, and asthma. These all cause chest pain but in different ways. Does it hurt when you put pressure on your chest?

No it does not hurt to put pressure on my chest. And I already know I don't have acid reflux, allergies, or asthma.

I would recommend a comprehensive physical that includes labs. I would also speak to the school counselor about any stressors that you maybe experiencing. Our bodies can act up if we are stressed, depressed or overwhelmed by all that life requires from us. I hope you find some explanation soon!
Any history of cardiac issues in the family?
Take care,
