Heridiary Hemochromatosis and copper/zinc ratio

Posted by caroline26 @caroline26, 1 day ago

Background info: Walsh Institute study - too much copper vs too little zinc lowers dopamine and increases norepinephrine. Copper is essential for proper iron metabolism. Hereditary Hemochromatosis is at its core improper iron metabolism. (I realize it's also genetic.) High levels of norepinephrine can lead to anxiety.
Medical History: HH dx in 4/2023, massive heart attack (widow-maker, thankfully not aptly named) 7/2020, and increased anxiety developing to panic attacks. None of these issues have been identified as being related.
Questions: Since copper is related to iron metabolism and zinc is related to anxiety, would a copper/zinc blood level be warranted? Could zinc supplements even slightly counteract the imbalances, reducing not only the anxiety but also the iron?
Might this be a simple fix for 2 seemingly unrelated issues without throwing more medication at them!?!

Hi caroline26

High intakes of zinc can interfere with copper absorption and lead to copper deficiency.
