Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HH) and Celiac Disease (CD)

Posted by savov @savov, Jul 5, 2018

Is there any further research on the connection between HH and CD? The last one I can find is: 10.3109/00365521.2012.749511 from 2012 with Dr. Joseph Murray.

Hello @savov, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You may notice that I moved your discussion to the Digestive Health group. I did this because this is actually a diagnosis that is treated in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology division at Mayo Clinic. In regards to your question, here is what Mayo Clinic says about some of the treatments for HH, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hemochromatosis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20351448. Here are a few of the highlights that it touches on regarding diet:

- Avoid iron supplements and multivitamins containing iron
- Avoid vitamin C supplements
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid eating raw fish and shellfish

"Additional dietary changes generally aren't required for people receiving blood removal treatment."

@savov, if you don't mind sharing, how are you currently managing your HH?
