HAVE OCTAGAM INFUSIONS BEEN HELPFUL?

Posted by jandy88us @jandy88us, Sep 15 12:26pm

HELLO EVERYONE,
I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SMALL FIBER NEUROPATHY, HYPOTHYROIDISM, HASHIMOTO AND MORE RECENTLY WITH SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS. THE MEDICATIONS ARE NOT HELPING MY SYMPTOMS WHICH ARE NEUROLOGICAL THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE BODY. MY HEAD BURNS AS DOES MY MOUTH, MY LEGS AND THE LINING OF MY STOMACH. MY NEUROLOGIST WOULD LIKE ME TO START INFUSIONS OF OCTAGAM FOR 5 HOURS EACH DAY FOR 5 DAYS.
HAS ANYONE HAD THESE PARTICULAR INFUSIONS AND IF SO HAVE YOU FELT ANY RELIEF?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER! 🙂

Four years ago my neurologist put me on weekly Octigam IVIG for my CIDP. It worked great for me and controls the disease where I have a normal life. No adverse reactions other than it tired me out. It’s sure isn’t cheap but I’m fortunate that my insurance pays 100%.

I take Panzyga for my IVIG. I have gotten by balance back. I can finally sign my name again and my tremors are not as bad from the motor neuropathy (which is one of my many neuropathies that I have). Mine is autoimmune caused by my lupus, Sojourns, and mixed connective tissue disease. It has really helped me a lot. Initially the first infusion is for five days it is called the loading dose. Mine takes7-8 hours. I get it every three weeks for three days. It took about six months to start working. IVIG does not worth for idiopathic neuropathy only autoimmune neuropathy. If you read up on what the neurologist recommended most are for CIDP and motor neuropathy. I recommend you get a port. It is a lot easier than constantly getting stuck for an IV. This causes my body to hurt all over. Read up on octogam

@artemis1886
I agree with having a port installed. I had one installed three years ago and it’s so much easier.

Octagam IVIG works well for me. I am infused 1x per month for 3+ hours in an infusion center. They told me I am not a candidate for a port with this medication. So check with your Dr.
And there’s info on the Immunodeficiency Foundation website about IVIG, different medications and ports. Wishing you a good experience and improved health.

I have the same diagnosis as yours. It all started with Hashimoto's with hypothyroidism, and years later progressed to systemic sclerosis. I also have tingling and burning along with joint stiffness and skin thickening. I was evaluated by two neurologists in NJ and they did not feel IVIG would be the way to go at this time. I am currently on Methotrexate and will be switching to Rituximab for systemic sclerosis.

Are you on any other medications in addition to IVIG? What are your current symptoms? Your insights are appreciated.

I have really bad burning pain in my head, my mouth, the lining of my stomach and my legs! I’m on Mycophenolate since February with no relief!
My neurologist is suggesting IVIG!
