Has anyone had the Sacral Neuromodulation surgery for IBS?

I have had IBS-D for about 40 years & it has gotten bad enough that I had the Sacral Neuromodulation surgery where they implant a lead wire & attach it to the nerve that controls your bladder & bowel nerve & has a battery implanted & a remote for you change programs. It is very successful for the bladder control but apparently it is new for IBS treatment. I can’t find one review, including on the Axonics Therapy website, (the manufacturer & company of the device & procedure) for patients who have had this surgery for IBS & not the bladder. I find that disturbing & wonder if I made a mistake by doing this & if I should have it removed. It was good at first & then I was having frequent accidents with no warning at all which I very seldom had before. I would love to hear from anyone who has had this surgery & what your experience has been.

I had it 2 years ago for fecal incontinence. I have microscopic colitis. I think this is being the go-to now for all doctors trained in sacral nerve stimulator if steroids fail. Those are now our only 2 options. I find the paleo diet also helps me manage. Like you, I felt it wasn't doing any good. I gave up for many months thinking if I should have it removed. Well, probably not. It's another major surgery and recovery time. I went to a new GI and it told my Medtronics person to call me to get the interstem to work for me. Even with diarrhea, it is supposed to send a signal. I don't feel it gives me enough time to get to the bathroom. We changed the setting twice in the last month. Since my doc has moved elsewhere, she said I need to establish myself with someone else. So, she made me an appt Oct 1st somewhere with someone that I have to go to. I think she is setting me up with a female urogonocologist which works with women that may have had possible damage to the rectal area during childbirth. She said they can decide what trays they want, etc. She is also going to create more programs for me in addition to Program 1, 2, 3 etc. She is going to add A, B, C etc programs. So we will see what happens with that next week.

I just completed a 21 day Elemental Diet on my own. I was desperate to fix my diarreah issue once and for all. The doctors know nothing about it and they have been zero help
I used AI to discover it. I hate nothing but the MBiota packets with water for 21 days. AI also provided me with a reintroduction meal plan for the next 4 weeks. The whole thing takes 8-10 weeks to do it right. It's basically starving all the bacteria in the gut, good and bad, and resetting your gut. Once food is reintroduced it is supposed to grow the good bacteria back. Reintroduction part is very important, too.

Today, I can start eatting again!

@donnagail I just noticed typos or the computer changed my text. I can't edit so I hope you can make out the correct wording. I might mention my Medrontics lady that I am meeting with Oct 1st, is also trained in the interstem surgery.
