Had ablation?
I would like to know how many people on this site have had septal ablations without pacemakers, and how successful was or wasn't it? Thank you!

I had an alcohol septal ablation. No doubt it was a must. I had a sudden cardiac arrest and I needed the ablation or I would die again. I had an ICD after the ablation. The ablation surgery was not comfortable, but it was needed.
Have it done!

1 Reaction@jachrist I have HoCm and my doctors (COE) say I do not need it but that this disease is progressive so I might in the future. I am trying to get a feel for how often a pacemaker is needed and is this procedure mostly successful. I have heard mixed reviews.

1 ReactionEveryone is different. It depends on whether you may need a loop recorder, pacemaker, or an ICD (defibrillator)
I would follow your Cardiologist recommendations. You are connected to Mayo and they will monitor if the device activated.
I personally have not heard of issues, but I'm sure it's possible.

1 ReactionWe are all different. Both Mayo and my home cardiologist did not recommend ablation because of where my thickening was located, specially around the mitral valve area. I had a septal myectomy on the advice of both.
my regular cardio and my coe cardio tell me open heart is unnecessary in my condition, so the next step, if any, is an ablation.

I am still adding information as I just had it done last Thursday.
I have had 2 ablation procedures and unfortunately after 2 months of being free from AFIB on both ablations, my AFIB returned.
My Cardiologist wanted to proceed with another ablation procedure, but I declined and told him I was tired of so many procedures, 3 cauterizations, 2 cardioversions, 2 ablations and 1 Cardio catheterization and none of these procedures have helped me any.
I am 80 years old, and I have congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, pooling of blood in veins, coronary disease and the list goes on with all my health issues, not only my heart.
Therefore, I just want to live my life, for whatever time I have left, one day at a time. I don't want to go through anymore procedures.
Take care and God Bless.
