Found a Lump Under Right Rib

Posted by aodyer @aodyer, Jan 7 11:14pm

The other day I felt a lump on the right side of my torso right under my ribs. It's not large (smaller than my finger tip) and doesn't cause any pain on its own, though I'm not sure how long it's been around.

I have reason to suspect it's part of the skin and fat layer and not connected to an organ or bone so I'm suspecting it might be a swollen lymph node but I'm concerned it could be something serious like a tumor. Though I've had a brother who needed to have their galbladder removed so it might be something similar. I've been applying warm compresses and water and I'm wondering how soon I should visit my doctor.

Hi, I’m sorry that you’re having this problem because it’s always scary to find something different with your body and of course worrying about what it might be. Please do yourself a huge favour and get this lump checked, they can often be nothing serious but it needs to be checked out, the sooner you do so you will get the best answers and what to do about it, the longer you wait will just cause you more stress, I sincerely hope that everything will work out for the best.

There are new onset skin growths that are most often
benign. Small ones are usually removed in office and sent out to be checked. Start with a dermatologist who
deals with growths and bumps routinely.

@aodyer, a lump under your rib could be many things from a swollen lymph node, knot in a muscle, cyst or skin growth. I suggest contacting your primary care doctor and getting it checked out. Between now and your appointment, monitor the lump and note any changes to tell your doctor about.
