Forteo Vs Prolia?
I am considering starting meds for my severe osteoporosis but am weighing the benefits vs the actual increase in bone density. I’ve had two heel fractures first fractures since being diagnosed in 2009
In your experience how long should it take to make a difference to prevent further fractures? Thanks

Can you comment on why you are only considering these two meds.
My dr recommended forteo as I couldn’t tolerate biophosanates awhile ago and my scan was severe
May I ask what your dexa scores are?
@gravity3
Lumbar Spine: 0.640 grams/cm2; T-score: -4.5 Neck Left: 0.565 grams/cm2, T-score: -3.4 Neck Right: 0.562 grams/cm2, T-score: -3.4 Total Left: 0.584 grams/cm2, T-score: -3.4 Total Right: 0.576 grams/cm2, T-score: -3.4
I’d go for Forteo. It has a pretty good success rate building bone. If you can’t tolerate it at least you have other options. Once you start Prolia stopping it is a problem.

1 Reactionlorkay, I'm with your doctor. I'm on Forteo and think it one of the two best medication available. I'm way too scared of Prolia. If you are only looking at bone density. Prolia is faster, but Evenity is fastest. But if you want stronger more flexible bone, Forteo offfers it without contest.
Bless your choice.
Anyone with immunity issues might want to avoid Prolia as it is known to lower immunity. I already informed my new endocrinologist that Prolia is off the table for that reason; my oncologist wants me to keep my immunity up. The globulin count on my comprehensive metabolic panel normally hugs the line between acceptable and too low as it is.
