Flu shot

Posted by @lisabeans, Sun, Oct 14 6:32pm

Hope everyone is doing well. How many of you are advised to get a flu shot? I had my primary tell me to get it but the nurse practitioner said no since my immune system is already compromised. I have ulcerative colitis (remission), seronegative RA, and chronic pain. I had the flu shot last year and was sick all winter. Don't know what to do.

Hi my name is natosha and i was advised to get the flu shot by my rhuematoligist… but my primary care doctor said not to take it because if you happen to catch the flu and you took the shot it can kill you..i have sle lupus, fibromyalgia and connective tissue disease.. the best this you can do is get some cbd oil thats what i take ..they had me on plaquinil and methotrexate and while i was on them i ran a 103.4 temp the hole time like 4 weeks i believe i went to my ra doc and he didnt know what to do but told me to keep taking my pills mh other doctor told me to stop them immediately and almost a week after stopping the pills and taking cbd i felt amazing…its the only thing i can take to relieve my symptoms..wish you luck and god bless

Hi Lisa and Natosha,
Here is an article that might help give you more background information about the benefits and risks of getting the flu shot if you immune system is compromised and to help you ask the right questions of your doctors to get clear answers.
– If Your Immune System Is Compromised, Can You Get Vaccinated? https://health.clevelandclinic.org/if-your-immune-system-is-compromised-can-you-get-vaccinated/

Flu shots are also recommended for transplant patients who are immunosuppressed. See this article:

Im gonna continue to use natural solutions pills only make things worse and the flu shot has the flu in it so if you get a shot with no immune system to fight the virus off it can really hurt you doctors are in a business to make money so of course they are gonna tell you to take this and take THAT aint doing nothing bur causing more problems believe me i know i fell 100% better since i switched from pills to weed and cbd oil thats all you need.i was bed bound when i was on pills now i can actually work and do normal stuff..

I also have a compromised Immune System; however I always have a Flu shot, because I had the Flu in 2015 and spent 8 days in the hospital!! I have Asthma, Epilepsy and had a severe Stroke; however my Physicians have consistently told me to have a Flu shot yearly! My honest advice is to have the shot if it's recommended in your particular situation!

@lisabeans – I had the same situation last year but with no guidance from my Neurologist – I have GCA and was still on a high dose of Prednisone. I did some reading and decided to go ahead and get the shot. I did fine but I did not take the high dose one for older people. I did not get the flu.
