Find Moments of Humor

Posted by billiekip @billiekip, Aug 3, 2024

I'm 80 years old and have been married for 57years; my husband with ALZ is 81. We were heading to bed and he asked, "Are you going to sleep with me?" I replied, "Of course." He said, "What would your mother say?" Ha. One of the reasons I was attracted to him was that he had a great sense of humor and always made me laugh. It wasn't intentional last night, but it still lifted my spirits.

Hi. What a great comment. I have had some laughable moments also. We are both 80 and married 59 years. We have had separate bedrooms for several years since my wife started her dementia journey. She likes her privacy which I respect, but we do share a bathroom. My wife is convinced their are other women in the house - confirmed by "the woman in the mirror which she thinks is a window". I came out of the shower the other night and she walked in the bathroom, saw me and said "you are naked all the other women will see you!!! " I had to smile, quietly laugh and go to my own room happy - a great way to end a tiring day.
Keep the happy times and thoughts coming!!!!

Christmas Humorous True Story
Christmas Eve 1949

While we were very young, my sister and I decided to sneak into the area where gifts were located around the tree while our parents were sound asleep.

Aha. I found my package and very carefully located, I was thrilled to see just what I wanted: a leather belt with my name on it, I was a bit of a tom boy then, so I was extremely excited about getting the belt.,
I carefully wrapped package back up and we went back to bed.
The next morning, we had rushed to the tree. I picked up my package and said I could hardly wait to see what it was.
When I got it opened and saw that my gift had turned into a pile of “burnt biscuits.!!”
Everyone started laughing. They had lots of fun with me . I was not happy about the joke my parents had played on me.
I learned a big lesson: don’t open gifts until Christmas morning.!

Mom is eating less and less these days... The other day, I was at her memory care during her lunch and one of the sides was cooked purple cabbage. She said, "Look, there's something purple! I've never eaten purple before." She took a bite and although she never liked it before, she enjoyed it. Also, she now has about a 15-second memory.

A few seconds go by and she said, "Look, something purple! I've never eaten purple before." She took another bite. This happened at least 5 times in the next 5 minutes and it's the most I've seen her eat in weeks. It was great to see her smile and discover eating purple (and eating).

It helps to find the humor.

@tracidw Thank God for small things. The color purple and it's significance with your Mom; I'm glad you got that Holiday memory with your Mom.
