Hi @ happyme52. Welcome to Connect! That pins and needles sensation can mean a lot of different things. Have you had any issues with your ankles in the past? Do you have any other medical conditions that may be related?

I’m tagging @jenport and @rabbit10 who have posted about this feeling in the past and may be able to provide some insights and support.

Also, here is a thread where people are discussing peripheral neuropathy which is typically due to nerve damage so it’s probably not the same cause, but they do experience some of the same symptoms so you may find it helpful- https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/anyone-here-dealing-with-peripheral-neuropathy/.

I’d also recommend you visit a doctor if you haven’t already 🙂

My rheumatologist recently discovered I am vitamin B-12 deficient. She said
it can cause pins and needles feelings. I just read up on it and found this from a list of 7 Symptoms of B-12 Deficiency:
2. Pins and Needles
It’s very common to experience pins and needles if you sit cross-legged for far too long. However, pins and needles (or the feeling of numbness) throughout the body when you haven’t compressed any part of your body, can indicate a B12 issue. Numbness or the feeling of electric shock waves can be the result of nerve damage in B12 deficient patients. Nerve issues in the body can be traced back to low oxygen levels, due to poor red blood cell production, which the B12 vitamin largely affects.

Mary are you a diabetic?

@happyme52 also have someone check to see if it is nerve damage. I have pain in my foot and found out accidentally that it was nerve pain from my back. I have sciatica and got a shot in my back that took the pain away for several months. I am on Gabapentin now and it helps as well. I couldn’t sleep at night for the sharp pain and was worse when I laid down. Now it make since to me why I hurt worse at night, it was my back. May not be your problem but worth checking out.
