Fatty Liver w some Cirrhosis

Posted by wgbauer12 @wgbauer12, Oct 2 7:23am

Hi all. I was Diagnosed with Fatty Liver in 2016 at MNGI. Then in March 26 Endoscopy/Colonoscopy at Mayo showed Portal Hypertension. They prescribed Carvedilol in April/May. June started getting intermittent pain liver area. Has been on and off since.
Not getting concrete answers from my PA except was told not cleaning out intestines enough.
Don’t think anyone really knows. I’m almost 70. Guess too old for the docs to really care.

wghauer12, it is wise to get clarification on the cause of your pain. You might contact the physician who prescribed Carvedilol ( I would suggest that it is important that you contact the prescribing physician). If you can give a full description of the the pain and when it occasions and the exact location it could be revealing. There is a very rare side effect with carvedilol that impacts the liver. If you suspect a link, don't stop the medication without the doctor's advice.
I'm not diagnosing; there are many insignificant causes for pain in this area. One being flatulence another more significant could be thickened bile or gallstone sludge or or even gallstones. Which it seems (to me) as though the PA is suggesting.
As an aside, there is ageism in medical care. We of age, have to be diligent in recognizing and in counteracting it, mostly by changing providers. I don't think that ageism is the factor is your less than satisfactory care.
I would call and leave a message, expecting an answer, at the least from a nurse, before the office closes today.

Thanks for your help.

I agree with wghauer12. I am 73 with very similar diagnosis and course of action. Try to see the liver specialist.
