My brother-in-law is 63, had radical throat cancer surgery 10 yrs. ago. He has suffered since with all the complications of radiation. He is grateful to be alive but now is faced with a feeding tube through his stomach because the esophagus is so damaged and water and food go into his lungs causing many cases of pneumonia. He is failing. Because of radiation he has no saliva, has to drink water every few minutes so drs. are not sure what to do. He has to drink constantly but that contributes to infections. Is there a surgery to repair the esophagus at Mayo?
