Esophageal cancer treatment: Anyone have good experiences to share?
Hello troops. Does anyone have any good news about their treatments? All I've been reading are horror stories. Not very encouraging at all. I'm on my second week of radiation and chemo, and the first chemo didn't go well. Not meaning to add to the horror stories, but it made my stomach ache really bad. They stopped and gave me steroids, I think. Now I'm hearing these stories about leaking chemo causing pain, makes me apprehensive. So if anyone has had a GOOD experience, PLEASE share it!

Thanks for for the positive on this problem. I've been reading so many horror stories, my scan is in the next few weeks. Thanks again

I had total of 28 radiation and chemo treatment at Moffitt Caner Center in Tampa FL. After that cancerous tumor was gone and lymph nodes were back to normal. Now I just have periodic scans. Hope your treatment goes well.

1 ReactionI’m in the same fortunate spot as Don.
Diagnosed with stage 3-4 cancer January of 2023. I spent the rest of that year battling.
I had two months of FLOT chemo, followed by 25 radiation treatments (with 3 more chemo sessions) then Esophagectomy on August 3 , 2023.
No cancer was found in what was removed in surgery. Chemo and radiation worked.
My 12-month scan a couple of weeks ago was clean. No evidence of cancer.
You can do this. It’s challenging, of course, but clearly doable with good results.
I’m happy to talk if you want to.

The good news is that esophageal cancer is curable. I had tumor in lower esophagus and after 3 chemo treatments it shrunk 40%. My latest scan showed the cancer is gone and the lymph nodes are back to normal. I'm happy to answer questions. When do you have the scan?

Hi my name is Mark, i'm 65 and was just told on Monday I have Esophageal cancer. I need to go have a EGD & An Pet CT. to find out if it has spread. Little down about the news.
Was hoping to get a little advice on the road ahead.

2 ReactionsMay I just address you as M. That's a whole lot to digest, no pun intended. You kind of got a mixed bag on there M. I'm looking to have surgery sometime in August and back to eating steak and potatoes by the end of November. I guess it would be discouraging if I had to wait 2 years to start eating almost normally again. But whatever the case I'll keep hanging in there and doing what I have to do just like you did. I pray to God it doesn't get as bad as yours did, but knowing that you didn't kill yourself is quite relieving. Thanks for the words of encouragement and praying the best for your continued success in life after cancer. God bless.
Hi Aimee. Wow, that's a mouthful. Well I'm happy to hear that your sister is doing better and is looking forward to recovery. I'm in the Cleveland area where there are some of the top-ranked hospitals in the country. So I believe I should be in pretty good hands here. I must let you know that I am technically challenged, and when I mean challenged I mean challenged. So I wouldn't know how to get you my phone number without letting the whole world know about it. 😅 I think for now we'll just keep encouraging each other through this app and let others see the encouragement and be encouraged as well. God bless and I pray the best for your sister's journey and you. I know that we don't go through this alone, as our families members and friends are going through it with us as well. God bless.
Thank you very much.
Here's wishing you the best. Good luck, God bless 🙌
