Efudex with calcipotriol for pre-cancers on scalp
Hi Transplant Family!
I hope everyone is doing well. I have a question. Has anyone tried the new topical treatment for pre-cancers on the scalp or face called Efudex with calcipotriol?
I have been using EFUDEX only, but I recently read about the new combination topical treatment and I am wondering if anyone has tried it in our transplant community?
I grow lots of AK on my scalp due to my fun beach filled teenage years. Of course, now I know AK is the precursor to squamous cell carcinoma. Not good.
Please let me know your thoughts and have a wonderful day!

@hello1234 They left my immune suppression the same. It was not an infectious disease specialist but rather my dermatologist who got the correct diagnosis going. I went to an emergency room several times and they kept giving me infusions of antibiotics but I guess nobody there bothered to test to find out whether it was a disease resistant strain. Then it was time for my 3 month full body check and my dermatologist saw the wound and she squezzed it and was able to actually get a pus sample (no one in the emergency room had bothered to dothat). When she had it analyzed they discovered it was drug resistant. I don't remember exactly which drug they gave finally that was a whole other emergency room nightmare. Theaccident itself was bad but at least i was able to get my hand down n the pavement to break my fall so I didn't smash my face on the street. The guy thought he would run the red light but another electric in front of him had other ideas and stopped for the red light so this guy slammed on his brakes and steered out of the bike lane into the pedestrian safe area where I was standing and smashed right into me with his front tire and metal fender and front basket all sicing me up. I felt like punching the guy in the face, but I was only a half block away from home so I just walked home. I thought I had cleaned up everything myself but I guess that I missed something and got that infection. Not only are the delivery bikes going fast but they are much bigger and heavier than the normal electric bikes. It's like being hit by a moving phone booth (if you are old enough to remember what phone booths used to look like). I like to do things that make me feel good about myself so I tend to try to see if I can let my body heal itself if possible. I was in End Stage from the first week that I was dianosed with CKD for 10 stgraight years without ever going on dialysis. My nephrologist finally told that I had to get a transplant 3 years ago so I went for it and so far pretty good. Adifferent set of restictions to worry about but I'm still alive and moving forward. I don't remember the name of the drug they used. I'll try to pull it up for you. My memory not what it used to be. Be well!

3 Reactions@m1rmiller You are an amazing survivor!
And yes, I am old enough to clearly remember the days of telephone booths.
I hope the delivery service had good insurance that covered all your accident expenses, pain, etc. What a terrible experience to go through. I am very grateful you are better now.
BTW: Your dermatologist sounds like a superstar! She's done a fabulous job managing your skin cancers AND also was able to properly culture and diagnose your wound. Very impressive doctor, you are lucky to have found her!
