Welcome to Connect, @firecat70,

I’d like to introduce you to several members who’ve written about aortic valve repair and replacement; please meet @showflash @shakuni11 @redhawk @eugeneo @lyndamm @judytru @crhp194 @morningglory @michellr. I’m also tagging Mentors @hopeful33250 @cynaburst as they may have some thoughts to share with you.

If you wish, you can read some of their posts in these discussions on Connect:

@firecat70, have you asked your doctor about the edema?

@firecat70

Hello and welcome to Mayo Connect. I have a leaky aortic valve and while it has not yet been replaced yet, I have noticed the same type of edema that you mention – in the area of the ribs – but nothing in the lower extremities. I do hope that you talk with your doctor about that. This reminds me of something that I need to do as well. If you are comfortable sharing more can you tell us what type of meds you are taking since your valve replacement?

We look forward to getting to know you. Will you keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing?

Teresa

@firecat70 Thanks, I’m glad to know that. Currently, I’m taking 10 mg of an ACE Inhibitor and a little bit of a beta blocker for high heart rate. You have given me some “food for thought” before my next cardiologist appointment.

Was your valve replacement open-heart surgery or were you able to have the procedure where they use the robotics and just do it through some small holes? The open-heart surgery seems so traumatic – I guess I’m a little too anxious about that.
