Easter services, Passover and other celebrations during COVID-19

Posted by lioness @lioness, Apr 9, 2020

Since we are all staying home and there is no physical church we can go to on this important day in the believers life I wanted to ask you how are you celebrating Easter . Are you reading the Bible again the Easter story , Some of us are going to open the windows at 10 a.m. PST and sing Amazing Grace want to join us in your time zone this is one way how else are you celebrating the resurrection of our Lord?

@sueinmn

So excited today –
In the dark, 3 of us delivered little bags of Easter candy to each doorstep.
Then our tiny community had sunrise Easter service in the road, with social distancing, led by a retired pastor, and sung by two of our talented ladies. The message was accompanied by singing birds instead of ringing church bells, and felt very peaceful and hopeful. Afterward, we were served homemade Hot Cross buns and orange juice.
We are preparing and serving a takeout ham dinner to 80 in our community, and it smells heavenly already. Yesterday I prepared 30 lb of whipped sweet potatoes and we filled portion containers with condiments. This morning my husband and our resident chef will carve the hams, and we will have 6 people in the large commercial kitchen, filling the containers. One (young) member will hand pre-packed bags out the door to one member of each household, while I deliver meals to the doors of those not able to pick them up….
These effort is heartwarming because it FEELS like a holiday and we are making things a little more normal for our friends and neighbors. For those of us preparing, the masks and gloves are a constant reminder to exercise the utmost care to keep everyone safe, and it will feel strange not sharing the table, but at least it is something we can do.
Later we will share Easter dinner via Zoom with our kids and grandkids. Last night the Easter Bunny, assisted by a dear friend, delivered Easter baskets to their doorsteps.
Stay calm, stay safe, stay hopeful
Sue

@sueinmn – Bless you and all the folks helping with the service to the members of your community! What an awesome way to celebrate Easter. Our Easter in-car service has been cancelled due to the snow storm so it's another stay at home day for me and watch the service on my computer. Happy Easter and Blessings to all!

@johnbishop After we gather our (very small for us!) group of brother, sis-in-law and a few friends on a patio, we will watch the Mass from our home church on video. For some reason feeling the need for extra prayer and faith-filled messages at this time. So sorry your drive-by service was cancelled.
Blessings!

@johnbishop . Sorry your service was canceled I watched Easter service by Dr Stanley today what an inspiring service he had They sang He Lives and I sang along then opened my window and serenaded the neighborhood with He Rose and Amazing Grace . I felt this Easter was more important to do in light of the cronovirus. Bless you and everyone else this Easter and throughout the year . May we all stay safe, face mask and gloves wash hands

It has been uplifting to listen to various groups sing the traditional Easter Hymns on You Tube. This year will be most difficult for my husband. He hasn't missed a Resurrection Sunday Service in 75 years. All his adult life he has been involved in the music aspect either as organist, pianist, or worship team member. Our pastor is doing an on-line sermon as he has done for the past four Sundays. I am also planning to watch Franklin Graham speak at 10am EST on FOX News.

@mhugs, Welcome to Connect. Today is Easter Sunday, and so I want to ask about your husband. Did he get the opportunity to view the pastor's on-line sermon? I do hope that the message of Easter was a special one for him, even if not in person. I understand the disappointment of having to be away from his church today, especially the musical part. Being a musician myself, I missed that also. I play violin, and so I never have the words in front of me, just notes. So a real joy for me today was to hear the words These are hymns that I play every year during the Easter Season.
I look forward to the day when it will be safe for our health to be together in person with our family and friends. In the meantime, we will continue to meet each other and pray together while we are physically apart.
Is your husband retired from music ministry, or is his absence due to the coronavirus?

On Easter Sunday, the Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli, sang at the historic landmark without an audience, in a special concert for Easter Sunday. If you did not tune in, here is the link. The prayerful script and the photography are as inspiring as the music.

‘Music for Hope’ – a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the rest of the world during this difficult time, the pieces included the popular Bach/Gounod setting of ‘Ave Maria’ and Mascagni’s ‘Sancta Maria’, as well as an arrangement of John Newton’s enduring ‘Amazing Grace'.

I to watched Andrea Bocelli on Easter Sunday. What a great entertainer.
When he was in the greater Los Angeles area a couple years ago, had the opportunity to be at one of his live concerts. An experience you never want to forget.

We were really happy to be able to attend services this morning and listen on our car radio. Lots of waving and picture taking through the windows 🙂
