I have outer ear pain, tender and throbbing: Where can I get help?

Posted by salami223 @salami223, Jan 25, 2022

So for these past 2 days i have been experiencing excruciating ear pain, not inside my ear but outside around the edges i cant stand it. It hurts to eat and yawn on the right side of my face (right ear is hurting) it also is very tender so it hurts even if i barely touch it. it happened when i woke up one morning and it is now day 2 and it has gotten worse and now throbbing. Possibly swimmer's ear? I'm not sure, i just need help.

@salami223 Hello and welcome to Connect. I am not a health professional, so I cannot diagnose a problem. You may want to consider seeing a specialist such as an ENT (Ear, Nose Throat). There can be many things that contribute to ear pain such as sinus pressure from illness or allergy, a problem with alignment of the neck or jaw, infections, wax impacted inside the ear canal to name a few. Infections can contribute to hearing loss and you can find information about hearing problems at this link: https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing-ear-infections-deafness

Hearing is pretty important. Will you consider an appointment with a specialist?

Hi Salami223, I'll be interested to hear what you learn after your appointment with a specialist. In the meantime, to help you prepare for your appointment and to know what questions to ask, you might find this related discussion helpful:
