Diet Dilemma

Posted by januaryjane @januaryjane, Apr 13 12:31am

Ive about had it with my gut. And diets, not the calorie counting kind, the id like to eat without my body spitting out its wrath on me kind.
This year I was officially branded with Ibs, add that to slow-transit constipation. You know how messed up that is?
Ive been put on so many diets its not funny. Low fodmap, low fiber, high fiber, gluten free, low inflammation, and the ever so handy liquid diet. Good grief.
No one tells you that these diets can cancel eachothers "ok" items out, so there is literally just water to pick from.
This whole Ibs-Stc is confusing, mind numbing and drains everything out of me at times.

Im not saying i want to eat junk, i just want to eat and not have to worry about an unpleasant outcome.

Hello @januaryjane

I'd like to invite @thull to this discussion. Perhaps you have met her in other discussion groups. While her digestive tract problems have been somewhat different than yours, she has taken a very diligent and systematic approach to eating dilemmas and dealing with digestive disorders. Perhaps she can add some thoughts to encourage and help you.

They have me on low residue diet, which does help. Any vegetables I eat have to be cooked, not eating much fresh fruits, except bananas are ok. Applesauce, canned peaches/pears. I tolerate pretty much all seafood, chicken, pork. Red meat seems to be really hard for me to digest, both from the gastroparesis and the loss of so much of my large intestine. I eat a lot of pasta. My go to when I need some nutrition but don’t really feel like eating anything solid is Boost Breeze, suitable for clear liquid diet. 250 calories and 9 grams of protein. I had to order it on Amazon. 3 different flavors, peach, orange and mixed berry. My favorite is the peach. I hope this helps!

Thanks but my stomach is overly sensitive lately. I cant drink water without causing ibs flares sometimes. It seems ill limit my diet down to nothing, the ibs calms a bit, then i start trying to incorporate a wider diet and acts up again. Ive had this constipation since i was 17(im 34), just last year i started getting ibs. I dont know what to do anymore, thinking surgery might be a good option.
