Dental device for sleep apnea
I have some sleep disorders. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago and used to have a CPAP until I got a gastric by-pass and the sleep apnea disappear. My dentist is telling me that she treat sleep apnea with a dental device you use at home without the need to use a CPAP . Is anyone on this forum using a dentist implant to treat sleep apnea and if so what has been your experience on that?

I have a friend that has the device and he says it works great.
@nallyator19571031 ,
I have one too. Been using it for years. It tracks my sleep, and seems to be working very well. Very little snoring and no night breath interruptions
@stephinny Would you tell us more about it? I couldn't use the CPAP because I cannot stand having that on my face....
If you Medicare it’s considered a DME. Go to Medicare site to see what you to do to qualify ( dentist has accept Medicare etc)
Yes, I do have Medicare Advantage from Humana. Can the users of the dental device tell me the name of the device the dentist has placed so I can asked for the same?
@iblancoc. I would also like to know the proper name of DME device, or a website link for it. I can't tolerate that mask on my face.
@mermaid7272 : I will ask my Dentist the names (if is more than one) of the devices she use and I will post here, but I would appreciate if the members of this forum let us know those names for reference.
I can not tolerate CPAP mask on my face either.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea between 2010-2020. During May 2021. I was traveling and around that time the soclean machine had contaminated the Phillips cpap machine. When I tried to get a replacement machine they said their were none. I was told that I did not need a cpap machine. So when I was hospitalized in June, they told me that I had sleep apnea. I said I no, I did have it, but I had surgery to fix a deviated septum. After that I was told I no longer had sleep apnea, a nurse told me I was observed sleeping and had stopped breathing. That was more 5 years ago. What device is now used in place of the cpap?
I don't think a CPAP machine has been replaced although there are so many different options ( models) that you can select. The dental devices is another way to treat the Sleep Apnea for those ( like me) can not resist CPAP for sleeping. AS mentioned before, I would try to see the differences between the dental devices and I will post here.
Note: DME stand for "durable medical equipment" and I do not know if those dental devices qualify or are included as DME to be covered by certain health insurance.
