Tuesday Q and A: Former smoker should be screened for abdominal aortic aneurysm

Posted by @Margaret_Marie in Lung Health, Aug 26, 2014

DEAR MAYO CLINIC: My father, who is 70, was a smoker for 30 years. I have read that men who used to smoke should be screened for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. What does the screening involve? What would be done if he is found to have an aneurysm?

Margaret - Pretty good idea. A few months back my doctor went in to stent my carotid but never got that far. Why? He ran smack-dab into a giant AAA. He said it was about to pop... 6cm. or something (not that i know what that actually means).
