Dear Annie, My son was diagnosed with ankylosing about 6 years ago

Dear Annie,
My son was diagnosed with ankylosing about 6 years ago at the age of around 27. We were really worried about him starting on Enbrel because of all the side effects, mainly that it suppresses your immune system and I feared he'd be susceptible to everything...but we went to a specialist in San Fran. and he said he was too young to allow his joints to become fused and it was essential to give him a LIFE...so he was on Enbrel for about 5 years during which time he was extremely healthy and basically free of pain!! It was wonderful...but apparently, it began to stop working and he developed some new pain in his ankles and other places, so he's now on Humira which seems to be working very well again. I'm always quite afraid of his taking such strong drugs, but I know how important quality of life is and without these TNF blockers, so many of these young people were going to be doomed to the kind of painful lives that so many people with ANkylosing who are older have to live with. I'm Nancy, by the way. Hi there. @annie1393
