CT scanning to diagnose/monitor MAC

Posted by kathyhg @kathyhg, Nov 6, 2019

I was recently made aware of low-dose CT scanning (as opposed to regular CTs) and wonder if these are being used for diagnosing/monitoring lungs. I have had one CT and scheduled for a follow up soon. I would prefer a low dose CT and will ask my doctor.
Does anyone have any experience with these CTs?
Thanks in advance,

@kathyhg Hi Kathy. I did not know about low-dose CT Scans, thank you for bringing that up. I 'Googled' it and found this: https://www.lung.org/our-initiatives/saved-by-the-scan/ I guess they use it now for cancer screening. I would imagine that people whoare at higher risk for lung cancer would need a CT scan more frequently than every 5 yrs; so they have come out with a lower dose one. I would think it is worth a shot to talk to your dr about it. It sounds like a healthier alternative. Will you let me know what your dr thinks of the idea?

Nice to know! Thank you both!
