Diagnosed with Uterine Cancer (Leiomyosarcoma) and also had COVID
I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer (Leiomyosarcoma) this month. Two months ago large mass was found in my uterus. Prior to that, there were no signs or symptoms of large mass. I received my Covid vaccine on 12/9/21 on the first day of my cycle. My period went from being very heavy to light spotting that month. This never happens. Ten days later I went into the ER due to severe pelvic and abdominal pain. A CT scan confine a large tumor (tennis ball) growing in my uterus. I have no history of fibroids and a recent Ultrasound confirms that. Less than a month later I developed Covid(delta/omicron unknown) and my recovery time over three weeks. During that time my uterus/tumor doubled in size, as if I was in my last trimester of pregnancy. A full hysterectomy was performed and biopsy confirms uterine cancer (lmsarcoma). I believe the Covid vaccine and infection triggered the cancerous tumor to grow rapidly in a short period of time causing the pain and discomfort to manifest. Curious if anyone else has experience with the impact of Covid and cancer.

I’m hanging in there. I’ve connected with a support group on FB and learned so much about this rare disease. It’s nice to hear other survivor stories, learn from their experiences so I can fight this battle and feel prepared. I’m still fighting LMS and learning to live life with it. I’m going to have a good life and not let this rob me from doing so.
I am so glad you have not had a reoccurrence. This cancer is a real beast. Unfortunately my was not caught in the early stages but I’m learning there are options. My tumor tested positive for hormones , so I’ve been taking a hormone blocker because your body naturally produces hormones (even without a uterus and ovaries). It has helped so far along with six rounds of chemo , 5 radiation sessions and tons of crying and prayer. I’m in a much better place.
I agree it will be interesting to see if an increase in cancer patients occurred during the “Covid period”. Unfortunately it may take years to gather that data, but I do hope it will shed some light to the unknown.
Hi, I had a similar situation with a very large mass & difficult surgery. I start chemo on Monday. Can I ask about your stage & treatment? Mine is 2B and I will have 6 rounds of gemcitabine & docetaxel.
I am so sorry you are going through this. My cousin and I had the COVID vaccine from the same company at the same time. We both developed uterine cancer months later at the same time. Many will say there is no relation between the two, but I will always wonder.
My vaginal bleeding ( 17 years post menopausal) appeared days before my 2nd covid shot. Referred to gynaecologist. Negative biopsy. Pressured to get first and 2nd. Opted out of booster and no one has suggested I get it. Uterine Biopsy a year later was positive for adenocarinoma.
Second Biopsy was sent to Boston. Oncologist does not know why it was sent. Perhaps I am now part of a study.
Yes, my vaginal bleeding was 6 years post menopausal. No one has suggested I get the booster and I have no intention of getting another COVID related shot again. Huge regret that I did in the first place. I wouldn’t be surprised if they enrolled you in a study but they should get your permission first correct? I reported my adverse event to Pfizer and they keep emailing me back saying they need more information after I have already spoken to them twice on the phone. The then send me a password to a questionnaire that doesn’t work. Typical Big Pharma operation. All the best to you.
I have stage 4 Leiomyosarcoma and am starting Round 2 this week.
That is very interesting, I even had last covid booster and flu shot after hysterectomy, and I have adenocarinoma also, makes you wonder.
Thank you for making this post. My cousin has this type of uterine cancer and she got it right after having the vaccine (I believe 2 months afterwards). She is only 39 and never had any complications before… I always felt like it had something to do with the vaccine. Watching her go through this has been absolutely heartbreaking and I am so sorry that you are experiencing it as well.
