Could This Be A New Dystonia or Parkinsons?
I previously was diagnosed with 2 types of dystonia (cervical (2021) and blepharospasms(2016), and had a TBI (subdural hematoma about 4 years ago). Late in July, I developed a jerk motion in my wrist, which happens sometimes at night sleeping and or may start up from activity such as cleaning. Initially bouts lasted minutes to a few hours; but lately it lasts as long as 17 hours with jerks occurring seconds apart. The same arm has multiple problems: bursitis, a slap tear, rotator cuff tendinosis, and a frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). The jerk symptoms started a few days after doing light-weight arm exercises (eccentric stretches).
I cannot sleep for it, despite having years of fasciculations which interfere nightly with my sleep--yet I am able to drift off. Not so with these jerks--it literally wakes me up and prevents me from falling asleep. Anyone out there have such a problem? It will be months before I can meet with my neurologist again. I have been diagnosed with Essential Tremor as well, but ALS is not suspected. Gabapentin, which I take for other issues does not seem to help.

Hi,
Your condition seems like a complicated one which I hope will only get better.
I did try Gabapentin once and its didn’t work for my refractory multifocal epilepsy. Well, do keep your spirits up!
Finding the right medication which works for your neurological conditions I always say is like striking a jackpot. People will always face different challenges in life as we grow older. I certainly hope someone who has the same experience as you can come share his/her story here.
Cheers,
Louis
Thank you so much Louis for your encouraging words! I definitely know how challenges can suddenly emerge in our lives. I wish you all the best and I hope you find successful treatment for your epilepsy.
