constipation

Posted by @anniness, Jul 21, 2011

I have struggled with constipation for years. I finally went off my anti-depressant and had more activity. Since, I’ve had to go back on my meds due to deep depression and my constipation is terrible. My Dr. said to take Colace twice a day but that’s not helping. I drink lots of water as instructed and take benefiber in my water. I know I’m not supposed to rely on laxatives. Are there any herbal remedies that anyone has had success with?

I am in the same position with gastroparesis to boot. What works great for me is I take Miralax (or a generic of Miralax) daily and 2 Citricel every day and no problems anymore. I take these under doctor supervision. I tried herbal remedies, but nothing worked for me. Good Luck!

My meds do the same thing to me, but I have had fantastic results with something as simple as Senna-Lax, an over the counter vegatable natural laxitive, taking 2 tablets in the morning with my morning meds, and 2 at bed time with my meds. I have been very happy with the results being so simple. Without this lax, missing 1 day, i am plugged, but making sure that I don’t miss any dosages has completely helped me. And the Senna-Lax is so inexpensive. Hope this helps

I do not take any medicine, but I have to work harder at this than most people, (no pun intended) so what works for me is to take 2 – 200mg magnesium daily (thanks to Dr. Oz for that tip), plus I add metamucil to my water during the day and I eat a high fiber breakfast with added chia seeds to my oatmeal. I have used Senna in my tea, (smooth move) and that works as well. Just be careful, too much smooth move and it really cleans you out too quickly. Good luck.
