Constant pain due to Cerebral Palsy?

Posted by @jndysn, Jul 18, 2012

My son Jacob is 15 and was born with Cerebral Palsy, for the past 5 or 6 years he has been in constant pain in his knees. He has been having botox injections that use to keep him out of pain for a little over two months, the botox injections are doing nothing for the pain. The pain is behind the knees in the hamstring area. Jacob has been on Oxycodone for 2 1/2 years now. His local Dr. said he doesn’t know what to do for Jacob and that he has come to the conclusion that people with CP are just always going to be in pain. I don’t buy or want to settle for that answer. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone dealing or dealt with the same or similar issues? I am all new to the Mayo Clinic and am grasping at straws trying to get help for my son. Jacob is very smart cognitively and can voice his pain, he is in a wheelchair and tries to walk in a walker which is very difficult and painful for him. I appreciate any help or suggestions.
