complex TKR with Progressive Valgus Deformity
AT age 72, I will be going through TKR Mayo Rochester in a couple of weeks with two major clinical challenges: (1) Peroneal Nerve Decompression due to Peroneal Neuropathy and followed by (2) TKR with 18 degrees Progressive Valgus (knock-knee) deformity.
Please share your experiences with recovery and rehab related issues and tips. Thank you.

I don't have a measurement but I was severely valgus misaligned before surgery. My right foot pointed outward.
My surgeon used a robotic assistant (CORI) and did a Functional alignment and at my first PT session the therapist declared that I was already walking correctly.
Incidentally, I was 80 when I had mine. I think I have the best hip/knee replacement surgeon in the country but you will be close at the Mayo Clinic Rochester.

I have Valgus Alignment on the right . But, because my osteo- arthritis is more severe in my hips they are starting with my hips first. I have cardiac issues. I am also going to Mayo, as we live 3 miles away & everyone of our different providers are there, here in Florida. My first t
Hip which is the right hip will be done on December 28th.
@missy4242 good luck. I have had a left hip and now a right knee replaced but not both of either.

2 ReactionsI can not comment on your specific situation. But, I have a friend that had a TKR performed at a university hospital. The first replacement had to be quickly removed because she had an allergic reaction to the cement used. She had told the surgeon she had an allergy to super glue prior to surgery. She had another implant performed fairly quickly and then when recovered, had a second replacement on her other knee. Years later she went to Mayo for her revisions on both implants. She is doing very well and was very impressed with Mayo. Once you choose where to go for the surgery you have to trust the surgeon and facility. Of cpurse you are worried, I would be too. I personally would trust the Mayo surgeons.
