Scan shows a clip or calcification in the right breast: Why?

Posted by cberge67 @cberge67, Dec 14, 2025

Hello,
I underwent a double mastectomy over a year ago for breast cancer.
I had a CT scan for another issue and it shows I have a clip/marker or calcification in the right breast. My question is, if all the breast tissue was removed, how would a clip/marker from the needle biopsies still be present?
I’ve had my expanders removed and reconstruction completed.
It may be common, but it doesn’t make sense to me.

Hello @cberge67 I am not an MD and I could be way off about this for you. In my case I still have a marker from my original biopsy, even though I have had multiple surgeries since. My doctor told me it was sitting against the bone where he scraped the original tumor from the rib. He said it would be unlikely that it would be removed.
Was your original biopsy from against the chest wall?

Thank you, @auntieoakley, for your comment! I had 5 different sites and none were close to my chest wall. I did receive a note from my surgeon's office yesterday saying it is very common to have markers show up after surgeries.
I really value this group!
Thank you once more for your input.
