Pleural mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive cancer that develops in the pleura, a thin layer of tissue surrounding the lungs. Conventional pleural mesothelioma treatment can involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or a combination of two or more of these. In addition to these traditional methods of cancer treatment, researchers at Mayo Clinic and other research centers are developing emerging techniques to treat the cancer.
