Problem with Chronic constipation

Posted by bb03 @bb03, Feb 1, 2021

I have a history of hypothyroidism, severe endometriosis/treatment was a hysterectomy 17 years ago.I also have a hx of IBS. My thyroid hormone levels are stable. I eat like a rabbit(I poop like one too, LOL!!!!!!). I eat a large amount of fiber and drink almost every hour(nonalcholic).ONly prescription drugs I take are armour thyroid and my estrogen/prosterone troche. I make a coconut bread and I add psyllium husks, flax seed and chia seed to it. I eat it practically every am. I also eat a spinach salad for lunch daily with nuts and yogurt and eat a lean meat and veggie and more coconut bread at night. I do one cheat meal with a cheat dessert once per week. I am relatively active for my age of 60. I've been to a gastroenterologist and we have tried Linzess which didn't help at all. I take miralax, and a Super Cleanse tab one per day which has herbs to soften the stool and to stimulate the bowel and It barely works. I am at a loss. I have not tried Montegrity yet. I don't know if it will be helpful and the side effects scare me. I had a CT of my abdomen and it was ok, no obstructions. The gastroenterologist that I go to practically accused me of abusing laxatives. I would be impacted if I didnt use the miralax and the Super Cleanse. Diet/water and activity do not help. I had diarrhea from my late teens to the age of 36 when my intestines out of the blue just shut down completely. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I was put on Synthroid but the constipation didn't go away. So if there is any gastroenterologist out there that can help me, please let me know.I feel defeated and worry about my health.

Dealing with chronic constipation for 18 months. Working with diet and laxatives. Had negative colonoscopy and endoscopy. Looking to improve to resolution. Anyone else dealing with this? Male/70/208/5'9 no other major health issues other than blood pressure and cholesterol. Thanks

A few other points to add. I am currently doing the following for my condition. Not sure how to edit my prior post. New to this.

Have been working hard for 18 months to get a reliable protocol for regularity. Please review and comment.

Medication and food consumed between 7:30am and 6:30pm. Daily

300 mg of magnesium citrate every morning with 32 to 40 oz. of cold water, sometimes with 1/2 cup of hot coffee added to the water. Sometimes add 500 mg of vitamin C supplement not everyday. Can result om 3-4
3-4 major b/movements before eating. Seem to have the same effect that people get with linzess without 2 hours of diarrhea.

17mg of miralax - With brunch. Retired so I eat two meals a day brunch around 11:00am plus dinner around 6.

Food for brunch: 1/2 cup coffee with nondairy creamer, blueberries, baked beans, cooked collards and whole pear or apple or whole avocado, zucchini, and slice of liverwurst for protein, 1 kiwi fruit, olive oil on pears and zucchini. I am 90 % vegan so little meat, gluten, or dairy.

Cooked and raw veg for dinner + 6 oz. of fish and water only most of the day working up to 64 + ozs.

Have been following the above protocol but have had some issues lately.

My above protocol which was doable is now sometimes produces loose stools. Just need to get it slowed down. Want to keep miralax at 1 dose a day and go from there. Problem is that for several months, starting with daily miralax per the GI. I was unhappy with my results, needed to add mag citrate to get good movements. Now I sometimes have diarrhea prior to breakfast with just the one dose if miralax.. Anyone else taking miralax with occasional vitamin C and daily magnesium supplement having overreaction problems? Was on Bactrim antibiotic for 10 days for a skin infection and developed small yeast infection from Bactrim. But this has resolved. I may add kimchi improve this situation. Antibiotic may have also affected my digestive tract. May take miralax and magnesium with food to slow reaction. Male, 69,208. Please respond with any advice or comments.

The directions are on the bag but I usually do usually do 4 tsp in warm water, mix it up, drink it, affects come on within an hour and a 1/2. I usually do 4 tsp 2 or 3 times separated by 2 or 3 hours apart. It's been a game changer for me.

The beautiful thing about the Epsom salt, it does not work like a regular laxative in that it's not a stimulant laxative. The body doesn't view it as salt, it views it as magnesiun so it's very gentle on the system and is able to be used daily without any negative effects. Just be sure to drink plenty of water.

I would be careful if you suffer for my IBS because this may aggravate it. Just looking at the ingredients, I know this would bother me.
