My brother is in so much pain from chemical burns in his mouth from chemo. Does anyone know what to do?
I did not have to do chemo or radiation but I have heard frozen yogurt helps?

From TammyB: Ask his physician for xylocaine swish and swallow. This will numb his mouth and allow him to eat and drink fluids. There are also mixtures that come with benadryl, prednisone, nystatin and xylocaine. Talk to his doctor about a swish and swallow solution that is right from him.
I had burns, dry mouth, and sores from chemo and radition. Used Nystatin,
Biotene mouth wash (and Biotene tooth paste). All helped. The dry mouth is still
there, but burns and sores are gone. However, I still cannot use a regular toothpaste or mouthwash as hese will burn my mouth. So it’s Biotene, etc. forever, probably.

Honey is a helpful product for chemo mouth sores. Also, hard candy to melt in your mouth. Another great product you can get at Whole Foods stores is George’s Aloe Vera . It is fractionally distilled (and no citric acid in it) and tastes like spring water.
You may try brushing your teeth with baking soda.
thanks for all the tips in dealing with this ongoing sores/burning/and dry mouth do to cancer treatments. Frozen items like the yogurt, popsicles, and other cold foods does feel better. Just had another dentist visit and 2 more cavities (all told that’s
15 cavities since the beginning of cancer treatment until now —-this is more than I think I ever had in my entire life!) Fortunately, I didn’t loose any of my teeth, something that my dentist didn’t guarantee in the beginning of the restoration process. That was a very, very “down” time—you think you have “survived” the
surgery, chemo, radiation, & clinical trial then you hear your teeth are all
full of cavities. But, it can be worse, much worse, so I am not going to complain.
I’m going to ask my pc doc for the xylocaine swish, honey I can get in the grocery and the aloe and the baking soda. So glad to have this helpful information.
