Cervical Stenosis Pain and floating sensation

Hello, my husband is dealing with spinal stenosis and bone fragments throughout his spine, but the worst pain is in the neck. Probably due to wear and tear from construction work. He saw an orthopedic doctor who says other than pain management and eventual surgery, there is nothing he can do. He is seeing a chiropractor who has helped him , especially in the lumbar region. When his cervical pain becomes severe he develops a "floating" sensation in his head. Yesterday, he started coughing uncontrollably when the pain was severe . It stopped after several minutes and hasn't returned. Is anyone else dealing with these symptoms? Any suggestions? Very scary for us both. Thank you for any help!
