Can you switch gastros at Mayo?

Posted by gastrogirl @gastrogirl, Dec 29, 2022

I was told bluntly by patient experience that you can NOT ever change who you see and you only get to see who you are originally assigned.
Is this the case with everyone of you who goes to Mayo for their gastro? Mine is dropping the ball and I am tired of hand holding and that is what patient experience said to me. 🙁

I wish I could have . Took so long to get in there and then do 3 days tests out patient. Then the Dr they gave me just didn’t know what to do for me and my 7 diagnoses of chronic digestive disorders that are in my records after 5 previous Gastros in NC and FL . I was so disappointed ☹️ because it’s 9 years of suffering daily . Everyone said go to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, they will figure you out . Nope 👎.
Now I’m going to see functional medicine practitioner in mid Jan .
I’ve done everything else I can do . It’s so disheartening and frustrating and takes all the Joy 🥲 out of life .
Good luck 🍀 to you too .

I will try the university and then go down there. I heard they do a great job and you get to see an actual doctor!

Oh wow. I am so sorry. At this point , other than my yearly endoscopy, they are barely even managing my symptoms.

So sorry to hear you have been suffering for 9 years😔
Have they ruled out achalasia?
I have been sick everyday day for the past year. Have seen 5 GI docs and many test, procedures. Finally ended up at UCLA. Had a endoflip last week and now will have to see a doctor there that does the POEM procedure. I’m very nervous about it and am already very thin from not being able to eat much for the past year.

Hey Roxy. Dr Wexner was my surgeon for a sigmoid colectomy due to diverticulitis. He specializes in digestive diseases and has a very good reputation. I was referred to Wexner by my gastro doc following a colonoscopy last July. Cleveland Clinic was a good experience maybe they can help. Good Luck!
