Cadense shoes for balance issues: good or bad experiences?

Posted by brotherchuckles80 @brotherchuckles80, Apr 14, 2024

I am researching shoes for balance issues due to my neuropathy and drop foot. I have read great reviews and then precautions because they will slide on wooden o tile floor. Anyone out there in neuropathy and drop foot land had any experience with Cadense shoes; good or bad?
Thank you,
Charles aka brotherchuckles80

I have tried acis, sketchers, New balance, Keen. For my footdrop issue, Keen works best, then sketchers. I watched the cadence video on their site but it looks more like foot drag and I can lift my leg I just need more of a lift and arch support action to move my foot, before my spinal injury I walked Toe to heel. Keen almost makes me forget about my footdrop.

I tried the Cadense shoes for foot drop and they didn't seem to work for me. I have peripheral neuropathy from chemo that I had 10 years ago. I feel for me I need to be able to feel my feet. Sometimes, I have no idea where my feet are and am constantly looking where I will be walking. The shoes that have a lot of padding and memory foam do not help at all. They seem so comfortable but just make walking worse. Barefoot shoes seem to work best for me.

I am a 68 year old male and have had MS for 23 years. As my MS has progressed, I have increasing difficulty lifting my legs when I walk, hence I shuffle or swing my legs when I walk. The Cadence shoes seemed perfect for me. After a week of use, I encourage similarly situated people to try them. They make walking much easier. I fall with some regularity and worried that I could not get back up if I wore these shoes. With some care, you can get up wearing these shoes. The training videos that the company sends to you are quite helpful. Progressive MS is a grim condition; there is not much in the way of effective drugs and aides for folks with MS. I want to limit wheelchair/scooter use as much as possible. These shoes will help and they look pretty good too.

I am thankful to God that you are alive. I pray for you strength and patience in recovery from this cataclismic event. On a lighter note, the shoes are helping my friend with drop foot but not balance. Of course, the Cadence do not claim that. There is simply no cure for this didorder. God bless you and family. Pardon me, allegheny, but I am in your situation also. I have put forward your question also but have not seen an answer. I do have a friend who has PN with drop foot and balance issues. I told him that he is my Guinea Pig; if they help him with his balance, I will probably purchased a pair. God bless you. brotherchuckles80

I live in Florida, that is why I have not responded, its been quite a ride the last few days, still lots of clean up to do. I am not good because of balance issues, gee I hate that. Hopefully your guinea pig will have some positive answers for Cadense shoes...please keep me pasted. Best Wishes

I had laminectomy in 2022. I could walk again but began to notice the numbness and tingling in feet. Balance was a problem. Surgeon suggested I let him check my neck. Found a disc pressing into my spinal cord at C-4/C-5, so I had a fusion of that disc in my neck. Balance issues did not improve after that surgery. Surgeon says he could go back in and do a lumbar fusion and that might rid me of the numbness and tingling in my feet... but he thinks the balance issues are still residual from my neck. The word "might" causes me to hesitate to have the fusion. It's a HUGE surgery .... and at 73, I'm just not sure I want to go through that. I hate the numbness and tingling... but the worst issue is the balance and weakness in my calves ... so I can't walk as far. Anyone had a fusion and found it improved balance? As for shoes, I have some "Grand Attack" barefoot shoes that I got on Amazon... and they have been a huge help to me. They give room for my toes to spead out in the toe box. Best to all. Mike

No shoes on the market will help with balance unless the shoe manufacturers make them about 2 feet wide.

Haha, that really is funny, only then one would trip over the other foot.
