C diff

Posted by bluebanana @bluebanana, Dec 19, 2018

I'm suffered for 7 days with what I thought was a bad case of the stomach flu until I went to my family doctor and they requested a stool sample and found from that that I had c-diff I believe this is the sickest I've ever been in my entire life

@sakota

@pines. I had my gall bladder out maybe 20 or so years ago and haven’t really had normal bowel movements since. A few years ago I had three bouts of cdiff. And had not had it since. No idea where I got it as I was not on antibiotics when I first got it. Since then I deal a lot with diarrhea and that is no fun. But you deal with it. Now my concern is copd and lung cancer so to meI put on my depends and hope I dont have an accident and enjoy the day I have. Some of these things are not easy to go thru and that’s when we find out how strong we are. Keep the faith do what you have to and always have someone to talk to and rely on More power to all of you.

@sakota Cdiff spores can live for months on things. You could have picked it up in a doctors office, nursing home or hospital while visiting someone. It's hard to tell. It is not airborne though. Hand washing is key to an infected person. I'm happy to hear that you have not relapsed. Stay well and yes, keep the faith as you battle lung cancer.

@losthope How are you doing since finishing Vanco? I went for three weeks after finishing the Vanco taper before I relapsed. I was then prescribed the Dificid. Hopefully, the Vanco will work for you.

Just a couple days. I know it’s coming back I feel under the weather and going to the bathroom a lot. Everything I eat upsets my stomach. Not sleeping well. It’s a battle. Thanks for asking. How are you doing ?

@losthope I'm out 3 months since finishing the Dificid (fidaxamicin). I still have days when I have a loose BM but I only go once or twice a day. If you test positive again for Cdiff, you might want to consider taking Dificid. I have also decided if I ever do relapse, I will do the fecal transplant and ask for the pill form from Open Biome. The cost is $635 for 30 capsules and I will be happy to pay for it personally if my insurance didn't cover it. It would be so much less invasive. Although I still need to schedule a colonoscopy this spring.

@terridrag I believe you said this was your first bout with Cdiff and that you were on Vanco for 14 days. When I took Vanco for 10 days, I relapsed after just 5 days. If you test positive again for Cdiff, you might want to ask your doctor for an RX for 10 days of Dificid. It's terribly expensive, even after insurance. But so far, I'm 3 months out since I finished taking it. And I have a friend who is almost 3 years since her 2nd Cdiff relapse. Another person on this site said they were 26 days since they finished Dificid (fidaxamicin). My heart goes out to you. I know first hand what you're going through.

@terridrag It sounds like you might be dehydrated. You need to drink extra fluids with Cdiff. It just goes right through you.

I drink a lot and am not dehydrated I just can’t tolerate aloof of foods. I work in healthcare and talk to the dieticians a lot and they seem to think it’s a fiber issue

hi You all, I just am having my first bout with C.Diff. It is quite an experience. I am feeling kind of paranoid about the spores from C. Diff which apparently linger on even after you are feeling okay. What do you all know about disinfecting your home? Do you all do a lot of this?My doctor thinks you can't reinfect yourself. Have you heard that? Would appreciate any help.

Ah i see you talking about the spores. I am just in my first episode if C.Diff and right now what is upsetting me most is the fear that I could reinfect myself with the spores in my own apartment. Do you know if that is possible?

@annapocono Cdiff spores can live for months on counters, light switches & etc. What's key is to clean with bleach and wash your hands really good after every trip you make to the bathroom. I had never even heard of Cdiff before I got it last spring after taking Clindamycin. Unfortunately, I went for almost two weeks before I went to the doctor. At first I thought I had the flu… and then I thought it was Ecoli. What RX are you taking currently? I took Flagyl, then two rounds of Vancomycin and finally Dificid after my 4th bout last October. It's a difficult thing to cure. And there is more than one strain of Cdiff. Are you also taking a probiotic? My gastroenterologist has me taking Florastor or any probiotic with S. Boulardii in it. S. Boulardii can survive the acid in our stomachs and goes to work in our GI tracts where the Cdiff spores thrive. I will take this for ever and really think it's helped me. Wishing you well and hope this is your first and last Cdiff episode.
