Hi @donnalee48 and welcome to Connect.
I'm tagging fellow members, @egayle187 @lmh7 @windwalker @suzie2017 and @alleycatkate, who have had a bronchoscopy in the past. I can imagine that you are feeling anxious about the procedure. It is difficult to be calm, especially when you don't know what to expect.
Donna, may I ask why you are getting a bronchoscopy done?
I have had a total of three bronchoscopes in the past.
They were pretty easy, they sedate you enough that you aren't too aware of what's going on. They numb up your throat and all, there was really no discomfort to it. I was able to watch on the screen a little but was drowsy through it.
Hope this helps you feel more at ease.
I'm sure more will come in on here.
I have had one. Do not be afraid. You won’t feel anything during or after. I could not believe it had been done. Should have information immediately. Good luck.
Welcome! I understand your fear. I have been in your shoes. The technology is currently remarkable.
My feeling is, perhaps knowledge is power and may reduce fear. Have you read about Super Diemnsion Navigation System (Lung GPS)? Medtronic; and Johnson&Johnson are two different Bronchoscopes, that I am familiar with and they are remarkable! Hope this will help you feel better.
There is so much hope.
@donnalee48 Hello…Just had one about 3 months ago. It was simple…I really did not even know it had been done when it was over. It would be nice if all procedures were like that….with a good little nap to refresh you…They use light sedation so you are not aware of what is going on and you feel absolutely nothing. Please do not have angst over this as it really is easy..and a very good way for your Doc to to get cultures, any samples he may want and also to have a good look around. Kate
Hi Colleen, my husband had a bronchoscope on 5/15/18 in Sebring, FL. He has many problems and is in a weak condition but he made out very well. He was completely out and when he woke up his throat wasn’t even sore. Another good thing about the scope procedure is that they can do biopsies and washings to check out areas that are questionnable. It is not a painful procedure. My husband went home about 2 hours after the test. Good luck. I am sure everything will go well for you.
I will be having my 3rd one early next month. Don't feel anything as they put you out. Felt great afterwards. Good luck!
