Yes, Judy, I use it every day. I am supposed to do it twice a day, but I only do it in the mornings. I am too exhausted later in the evening to do it. I plan to get back on a better schedule and do it twice a day as prescribed. When I was sick with active mac; then I was religious about doing it twice a day along with the 7% saline. I have found that nebulizing the albuterol works way better than the handheld rescue inhaler.

Want to ask a question. I think I read somewhere since researching MAC that it could be killed with a temperature of water to 130 degrees. Did I read this at one point on this forum? Have you ever heard this? When people were talking about a new shower head we just adjusted our hot water to 130….hope this helps.

@gej53 The higher water temperature setting inhibits the growth of MAC. We had ours raised for that reason. Just be careful that you don’t burn yourself! irene5

We set our temp to 135F. Before I shower, I turn the spigot all the way up and run hot water through the shower to flush out the pipes while I leave the room to get undressed. (Exhaust fan running full blast.) I don't think there is MAC in our water because we have pink slime mold (methylobacter) and the two don't usually coexist, but just an extra precaution. The I adjust before stepping in.

I have used albuterol and have a supply on hand to nebulize. It works well for me, as does my Atrovent enhaler. I rely more on Perforomist, which I nebulize every 12 hours. It is a medication for longer-term opening of the airways. I rarely use albuterol these days, as I do fine on Perforomist and some occasional use (maybe once daily, rarely twice) of Atrovent.

Hi Gayle & @gej53 – If you do not tolerate albuterol well (shakiness, etc) ask your doctor if you can try levalbuterol (brand name Xopenex.) It is buffered somehow to alleviate some of the side effects. Albuterol gave me such shakes & tremors that I would wait to use it until I could barely breathe. Although I get slight symptoms from levalbuterol, I would say it is 90% better. Since it used to be brand name only and very expensive, many docs don't usually prescribe it. Now that the generic version is available the price is similar to albuterol and is on the formulary for most insurance plans. It comes in both nebulizer solution and rescue inhaler.

I don't tolerate albuterol either. It makes me crazy. When I switched from 3% saline to 7%, my doc wanted me to add albuterol but when I told him it made me upset and shaky, he switched it to generic for xopenex. I take two puffs of before using the saline.
Judy….I do albuterol in my nebulizer…Then the saline with the aerobika…connected to the nebulizer…..I do twice a day. I have to say when I did saline with nebulizer it was quick…Now with the Aerobika…much longer. Takes about 30 min total.
@kayekuz, Hello there. I have never tried the aerobika although mu doc has prescribed it. I haven't ordered one because I have no trouble getting stuff up after I neb the saline. My question is: can the aerobika be used without nebulizing the vials of albuterol and/or saline? Or can it be used by itself?

Yes, Terri – the Aerobika can be used alone or with the neb. I too only use it if I feel congested – the saline alone is usually enough to get me hacking. Oops, that reminds me – I need to go find another neb cup – I washed the impeller from mine down the drain…

THanks!! 🙂 Will do…
Hi Terri – I was told that it was the same gas that was used to kill people during the Vietnam War – very scary
