Broken Heart Syndrome

Posted by @greenbeanstock7 in Heart & Blood Health, Oct 13, 2011

In November of 2009 I went into cardiac arrest (at the age of 24) and my initial diagnose was broken heart syndrome. The doctor's don't know why it happened, all they know is that my left ventricle enlarged, causing my heart to stop. Luckily, my boyfriend was in bed with me (it was about 9pm) and he noticed me breathing funny and took action by calling 911. I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there who is around my age (or know anyone who is) who had this happen to me. Obviously, there's more to details to my story and that was just the jist of it.

My cardiologist decided to implant a pacemaker/defibilator in me while I was still in the hospital. Neither one has gone off but I still go get the device checked every 3 months.

I had the same thing happen. My doctor called it Stress Induced Cardiomyopathy or Broken Heart Syndrome. I had it happen will I was drive through a roundabout. Luckily a gentleman driving behind me stopped and called 911. I was down for at least 10 minutes they think and had to be shocked 7 times. Mine happened in Feb of 2010 and although they thought I was ok, my condition recurred in October of that year and they installed the ICD/Pacer. It has saved my life twice by pacing my heart back to normal.

Wow, while you were driving? That's crazy. I was also not breathing for several minutes and had to be shocked 3 times before my heart rate stabilized. Did you have to have anything else done? I was put in induced coma and cooled down to preserve my organs. That's too bad that it recurred again but good thing they installed the ICD. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and are you a female? They say it happens more to females that are older.
