Big 3 and insulin resistance
Has anyone here ever developed insulin resistance while on the Big 3? I've been on the regimen (Azith, Rifabutin, Ethambutol) along with Brinsupri for a little over 2 months. At my first lab check after starting treatment (lab was done Aug 31) I had an elevated ALT, they repeated it a week later and the elevated value dropped into norm. The other abnormal lab on my first lab was glucose - which was 59 non-fast (2 hours after meal). When I asked the ID doc about it, he said I may be developing insulin resistance. No one in my family ever developed either type 1 or 2. I called the Brinsupri rep and she said there is nothing in the literature about Brinsupri causing this, so suspicion falls upon one of the Big 3. Since ALT went down, I'll keep on big 3 until my next appointment in late Oct. My husband has a glucose monitor, so for now I'm just going to watch it.

@ursala7 Hmmm... a low glucose reading does not typically indicate insulin resistance,
Another thing to keep in mind- none of the Brinsupri trials included people also on antibiotic therapy, they were specifically excluded, so nobody really knows the effects of the combination.
Be sure to bring this situation to the attention of your primary care provider and your pulmonologist.
Has it happened more than once?
The lab test caught the low value once, and the ID doc is going to use my latest sample to re-run the glucose. Yes, something, I am paying attention to. THx!
