I am in no way trying to be political here, but I have always admired the warrior and stateman John McCain has been.
It was with great sadness I read of his decision to end treatments for his brain cancer today. However, after my wife's battle with the same tumor, I also understand and appreciate his strength in making this choice.
I'm sure it was not easy for him and it will not be an easy journey now for him, his family, those who love him, and his caregiving/hospice team. Not everyone understands when decisions of 'quality over quantity' are made by those who battle incurable disease. I wish them all well!
At times like this I am reminded of the Serenity Prayer: "God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change: Courage to change the things I can: and Wisdom to know he difference."
John McCain certainly has courage and wisdom. I wish him all the serenity in the world.
Strength, Courage, and Peace to all caregivers and their patients
